

Between summer groups, conferences, and repair and preparation work done by maintenance and custodial staff, Baker’s residential facilities are far from empty during summer months! This busy and complex schedule of summer use makes it difficult for Residence Life and Student Affairs to accommodate move-in requests outside of the scheduled move-in dates.Īt times, however, it may be necessary for a student to move into his or her assigned on-campus housing before the designated move-in date. Failure to abide by University policies or regulations will result in judicial documentation including, but not limited to, fines, retribution, and possible removal.īaker University’s residential facilities are in use throughout the summer.Failure to vacate an apartment at the designated time at the conclusion of the school term will result in a charge of $50 per day or part thereof. Residents will be held responsible for damage to their apartment and the furnishings within it. Detailed checkouts will take place when an apartment or room is vacated.This will begin on stop day, the day before the first day of finals beginning midnight of the last full day of classes. Twenty-four-hour quiet time will be maintained during the week of finals.For medical emergencies, always call 911. For campus emergencies, please call Campus Security at 785.594.8430 (available 24/7). Please add your assistant hall director’s and Campus Security’s numbers in your phone. The assistant hall director and Campus Security can be a resource during emergencies.If your concern is not addressed within 48 hours, please contact your assistant hall director. may not be addressed until the next business day. Nonemergency requests submitted after 2:30 p.m. The Office of Maintenance is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. Maintenance concerns should be submitted using the online maintenance work request.Fabric should not be hung on walls or ceilings. Use blue painters tape to hang pictures or posters on walls.No tape (other than blue painter’s tape), shelves, bookcases or furniture are to be attached to walls.Bikes should be kept in the bike racks provided, not inside apartments or chained to railings.Please see the student handbook for further information as to what not to bring to BU. No halogen or quartz light bulbs or lamps, incense, candles or candle warmers are permitted in the apartments.Grills may not be stored or used in an apartment. Barbecue grills may be used only in the commons area of the ground floor of the apartment complex.Failure to comply will result in a fine and/or professional cleaning at cost from the maintenance department. Apartments found insufficient will be documented. Periodic health/safety and maintenance checks will be conducted in the buildings.Students will be documented if they fail to follow this policy. Please discard tobacco in the appropriate container. Smoking and using smokeless tobacco outdoors are permitted. Cigarette smoking and smokeless tobacco are not permitted in any building on the Baker University campus nor within 25 feet of any building.No provided furnishings may be removed from the apartment.

Individuals are discouraged from bringing additional furniture and are prohibited from bringing personal mattresses. All necessary furniture is provided in each apartment.Trash is to be placed in the trash dumpster.Personal property is not allowed on the balcony, stairwells or railings. All personal property of the residents must be stored within the apartment.The assistant hall director may issue warnings, but an incident report could be issued for noise and failure to comply. If this request is not heeded, the assistant hall director should be contacted. Residents who are disturbed by noise will first contact the offender and ask them to reduce the noise. Gatherings in the Horn and Markham Apartments will not disturb others and will not include more than 16 people in an apartment at any time.The Baker University alcohol policy, as printed in the Baker Student Handbook and on the Student Affairs website will be strictly enforced.The Horn and Markham residence facilities will be under supervision of one assistant hall director.Complete rules and regulations for Horn and Markham Apartments, Irwin Hall, Gessner Hall, and the New Living Center can be found in the Student Handbook.
